During the summer of 2004, I began taking yoga classes from a friend on my college campus. I had never slept so well as on the days I practiced. Three years later I immersed myself on the yoga path in Minneapolis. A disciplined nature, liberal arts education, and a deep background in sports and physical activity allowed me to create an immediate connection to the intensity, philosophical ideals, and fun of the yoga communities. I have had the blessed opportunity to embrace the teachings of my mat through many yoga styles, trainings, wizened instructors, workshops, meditation sessions/retreats, and have even participated in several yoga competitions at the national level. Since 2008, I have logged over 4,000 hours of instructing.
My hatha classes offer challenging and intelligently designed sequencing, with a large emphasis on breath control, movement precision, and anatomical awareness. Personally, I enjoy the yoga and meditation forms of Anusara, Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyengar, Jivamukti, Kundalini, Parayoga, Yin, Rinzai, and Vipassana. I love helping students raise their vocabulary of postures and insight to the subtle similarities that lie amongst them, by incorporating elements of said tutelages. “Posture Chemistry” is the phrase I like best to describe the created energy and effective movement between and within the poses.
I see yoga as a true way to overcome the distractions of the mind, resistances of the body, and hindrances of the spirit. I believe in seeking and embracing change and challenge. I choose my path knowing that like begets like; good smiles and hearty laughs are contagious, are they not? See you here!
